Dr. Sheila Jahan, Staff
Director, brings a multi-cultural, experienced approach to
her specialized practice of neurological medicine. Born in
Afghanistan and educated in India, she completed her course
of study in medicine 1985, moving to the United States in
late 1985 and undergoing the two-year rigorous American re-credentialing
process. During that time she performed volunteer work at
the University of Southern California Psychiatric Hospital
in Los Angeles, continuing her training at the V.A. Medical
Center in Washington, D.C. with an externship in oncology
and a later internship at Prince George's Hospital through
the University of Maryland. Residency at Howard University
followed from 1991-1994, where Dr. Jahan performed a rotation
in neuropathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology
at Walter Reed Army Hospital in the District.
Honored in 1993 by the National Medical Association for her
presentation in Inflammatory Polyneurolpathies, Dr. Jahan
was recognized again a year later for her work and awarded
a fellowship in Neurophysiology from Howard to perform a rotation
in electroencephalography at Johns Hopkins University with
renowned Dr. Ernst Niedermeyer, a protégé of Sigmund Freud.
Since entering private
practice in 1995 in Northern Virginia, Dr. Jahan has devoted
her time to helping her patients in the areas of sleep
disorders, pain management,
dizziness, balance therapy,
and myriad other neurological dysfunctions. She is also a
trained expert in the administration of botox
for treatment of neurological disorders. Her neurology
practice and clinics in both Alexandria and Woodbridge have
been serving their respective communities for nearly a decade,
and Dr. Jahan has traveled on numerous occasions to her native
Afghanistan to afford volunteer services in her field.
Dr. Jahan is board-certified
in clinical neurology
by the American Academy of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgery
and is an esteemed member of The American Academy of Sleep
Medicine, The National Chronic Pain Outreach Association,
the American Board of Clinical Neurology, the American Academy
of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgery, a member of European
Neurological Societies, and at present awaits board-certification
with the American Academy of Balance Treatment.
